Where: St Johns Nevilles Cross: the church/the grounds/the car park.
When: 5pm Fri 14th March through 8am Sunday 16th March.
Age: 14-19
Why: For a short time we’ll choose to make the reality of the world’s poor our reality, raising money for change and being changed in the process.
How: The aim of the event is to not only gain a great experience and raise awareness but also raise money for those who live out thier lives in slums. It is our goal to raise £1000: the figure is based on 20 people coming and each raising £50, so go for it, get out there and get sponsored, together we will make a real difference. You can get a sponsorhsip form here, or get your sponsors to give online by using www.justgiving.com/durhamyfc.
We’re getting together to spend a few days like a billion spend a lifetime. We’ll build a temporary settlement outside (or inside) the church and live there for a weekend, eating a limited diet and undertaking real life challenges. Every person will responsible to getting sponsorship to raise money and awareness for Soul Action projects that work in some of the poorest communities in the world.
Slum Survivor is a simulation experience designed to help connect young people with the lives of some of the world’s poorest. To begin to see and feel how one sixth of the world’s population live, by living in a temporary shelter, eating a limited diet and facing tough challenges and choices we’re seeking to both raise funds and awareness of the poverty and people that live in the world’s slums. The money raised will go to the work of Soul Action partner projects working in poor communities throughout the world. Throughout the weekend, as well as raising money, you’ll also spend time in prayer, reading God’s word, learning about life in temporary settlements and connecting with God’s heart for justice so that idea through Slum Survivor we’d be changed as we help to change the lives of others.
