Durham YFC

Schools

Durham YFC have established links with several secondary schools in the Durham area and offer a variety of services:

Resources:

To the left you will find full information on schools resources. These are available for purchase by schools, churches and volunteer groups. Please contact us to arrange to sample the material.

Extended Services:

We are an Extended Services Partner Agency for 2 local secondary schools.

In Gilesgate Sports College we provide a detached team who engage with young people during lunchtimes to build positive relationships, particularly with those pupils who find the school environment challenging. Through workshops, such as street dance and issue-based conversations we aim to support pupils to increase their confidence, engagement and participation.

In Belmont Performing Arts College we provide a detached team who engage with young people during lunchtimes to build positive relationships. We particularly focus on transition periods, between Year 6 and Year 7 and between Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. We also provide a drop-in called SUMMIT for year 10 and 11 students on a Wednesday lunchtime in partnership with the St Mary Magadalenes youth provision. This is a safe space for time-out, games, and informal mentoring and support.

Assemblies

We deliver a variety of assemblies throughout the year in Durham High School for Girls and Durham School. Do contact us if you wish to benefit from this facility.

City wide

We are looking to develop relationships between churches and schools and currently support volunteers who are active in schools through training and resourcing. We are part of a local Christian schools work forum. Please contact us if you are interested in being involved.

Future opportunities

We are developing a Happiness Course which aims to engage young people in thought, activity and discussion about contentment, spirituality and the wider community and addresses the prevalent issues such as teenage depression and suicide. This will be delivered in Belmont Performing Arts College in the Spring Term.

We are in the process of becoming an ASDAN accredited centre through which we hope to pursue a range of additional opportunities.
