The Reflex Mentoring Project is a new project run by Durham YFC that will offer support to young people involved in the criminal justice system, or those who are at risk of offending. Young people will be offered the chance to meet weekly with a supportive adult who will offer support, be a positive role model and will help young people address life issues. For these young people, who often live complex and chaotic lives, the presence of a consistent, positive adult can have a great effect and can enable young people to believe in themselves and their potential to achieve.
We have already had a number of volunteers come forward to be involved in mentoring and would love to hear from anyone else who might be interested. Check the news page on our website for the next training dates. All mentors will be supported, trained and resourced by the Reflex Mentoring Coordinator, Helen Shepherd.

The Reflex Mentoring Project is part of the national Reflex project, which works with young offenders in many different contexts. Reflex aims to offer all young people involved in the criminal justice system the opportunity to meet with a mentor. We are excited to be bringing this work to the Durham area and look forward to the impact this will have.
