May We Have Hope Sports Day

As part of Hope 2008, Durham YFC (along with support from St. Nic’s
Church, King’s Church & LOL Youth Ministry) had a fantastic day of
sport, sun & fun on Saturday the 10th of May at the Laurel Avenue
Community Centre, as part of the Million Hours of Kindness intiative.

Over 200 people were in attendance – over half of which were young
people and children.  There was something for everyone – activities
ranged from face painting, to circus games, to mini Olympics and football tournaments.
Young and old, everyone had a brilliant time.  To say that Saturday
was warm is a gross understatement – countless pitchers of squash and
water were filled & refilled as the sun beamed down on the thirsty
masses.  Squash has never tasted so sweet!

Arguably the favourite part of the whole event was the barbecue –
hundreds of beef burgers & sausages were cooked & served to the
crowd.  It’s safe to say that no one went home hungry.

Many thanks to all the volunteers that came out and served food,
played mini Olympic games, painted faces, and generally had fun with
the kids.  You’re amazing, we couldn’t have done this without you.

Thanks specifically to King’s Church Durham, St. Nic’s Church, LOL
Youth Ministry, and the Laurel Avenue Community Centre.
